Talavera 1809 Over the Hills Napoleonic 15mm

Talavera 1809 Over the Hills Napoleonic 15mm

A battle loosely refighting the core fight at Talavera, using over the Hills (which have become our go-to ruleset- highly recommended). The French almost pierced the centre with their Polish and the 28th ligne, forcing a counter from the British in the form of an envelopment by the 2nd and 4th divisions. The French reserves, earmarked to punch through the weakened middle, were forced to counter this threat meaning, at great cost, the British line held and the french broke.

A close run thing. too close!

  1. Great looking game and a fun battle to refight. Have done it twice in 28mm and a 15mm one is in the planning stages at my club.

    1. That sounds great, 15mm allows more tactical options with movement on table i think. This battle is popular with me because it contains more visual/quality variety in the armies e.g. the German Division, the odd white coated French regiment etc. which adds so much appeal.

  2. Those 'puffs of smoke' really add to the ambience of the wargaming table.

    1. Watching the 200 year reenactment brought home that aspect of theses battles. Troops would see nothing but the volleyfire in it. When my son's teddy bear sprung a leak its innards were sacrificed for the smoke. Works well.

    2. ...oh and it also allows us to know which unit has fired when we get to the movement phase as units must test to move after they fired.

    3. "When my son's teddy bear sprung a leak its innards were sacrificed for the smoke." ... and here I thought they were regular cotton balls :) Great that it serves both an aesthetic as well as practical purpose.
